    Through our program, the Elsevier Foundation and Corporate Responsibility team builds bridges with our key stakeholders by engaging on issues of mutual interest with our customers and partners. In addition, the team is responsible for running the  ,  Elsevier’s independent corporate not-for-profit and flagship . Through funding, in-kind contributions and skills-based volunteering, our Foundation supports technology-enabled inclusive health and research programs to support underserved communities around the world.

    The role: Corporate Responsibility Communications Director
    This role will support the development and delivery of Elsevier’s corporate responsibility and sustainability strategy including communications and partnerships. We are looking for a senior communications professional to promote our strategic engagements by bringing Elsevier’s inclusive research and health stories to life, using a variety of communications and PR tools.

    This is a newly created role central to our team’s strategic engagement and growth plans. In this role you will work closely with our business partners, strategic content, internal communications and digital engagement team to execute integrated multi-stakeholder communications strategies, fully leveraging Elsevier and the Elsevier Foundation’s sustainability initiatives.

    The position reports to Director of the Elsevier Foundation and Corporate Responsibility Program.

    Key r esult a reas / Main r esponsibilities

  • Work with the function lead, to help shape Elsevier’s Corporate Responsibility strategy, develop and implement a multi-stakeholder, multi-channel Corporate Responsibility communications plan.
  • Develop key messages and targeted content for different audiences across different channels. Work closely with the Brand, Content and Editorial, Internal Communications, Business Partnering teams , and other partners across Elsevier, to ensure we tell a clear, consistent and cohesive story internally and externally, with compelling and engaging content.
  • Build relationships with key opinion leaders and partners engaged in core topics of shared interest, such as access, equity and inclusion in research and health, UN SDGs, climate action.
  • Build relationships with media and create thought leadership opportunities . Work with other members of Global Communications, in particular the Business Partnering team, and external agencies where applicable, to create editorial opportunities globally to amplify Elsevier’s contributions to society and to create relevant opportunities for thought leadership.
  • Work closely with RELX on the broader CR and sustainability strategy, messaging and reporting . Manage CR Report data assurance process with RELX and internal verification managers.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Communications team to ensure that our CR, sustainability and partnership strategy is reflected in an engaging way across our owned channels (website, Connect blog, social media channels) and that we track relevant audiences, trends and discussions with a view to continually improving our engagement with stakeholders on topics that Elsevier advocates.
  • Research market trends and competitor programs to inform our communications strategies; Apply for CR/Sustainability awards to increase visibility.
  • Key Requirements:

  • 7-10 years of experience in CR/Sustainability Communications in an agency or a global private sector organisation.
  • Deep knowledge of sustainability/ESG best practice (e.g. reporting, impact evaluation) is critical, as is a strong sense of mission and purpose.
  • Strong communications verbal and written, and media relations experience, including message & pitch development, placement of stories related to ESG.
  • Experience of creating and executing successful communications strategies, campaigns and materials within a sustainability, social impact setting.
  • Exceptional communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Excellent stakeholder and project management skills; creativity and proven track record of collaboratively solving problems.
