Reporting directly to the Surgical Vision Global IOL Platform Engineering Director, the Groningen Supply Chain Engineering Director will be responsible for leading and directing all engineering & technology activities within the Groningen site while actively participating in and leading elements of the Platform Engineering initiatives, designed to progress and improve performance across the IOL Platform manufacturing network.
The core purpose of the role is to lead and manage the manufacturing and process engineering functions in J&J Surgical Vision site in Groningen. This will involve the development & delivery of technologies and solutions to support quality performance, improvement in process reliability and enhancement of value to our customers and shareholders. The role with require the use of project management, lean manufacturing, six-sigma, manufacturing excellence and innovation management principles and tools within the site and will be accountable for the execution of elements of global engineering & technology strategies.
The successful candidate will be a member of the site leadership and IOL Platform engineering management teams and will possess a strong strategic vision and a willingness to be hands-on in all aspects of manufacturing and supply chain operations as appropriate.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The scope of responsibilities encompasses the engineering activities to support the J&J Surgical Vision operations based in Groningen, Netherlands .
The engineering functions provide support to the manufacturing site throughout the entire product life cycle:
Collaboration with R&D at early stage of products development to provide design for manufacture guidance
Development of manufacturing processes for new product introduction/product transfer including new equipment and technologies procurement, commissioning, and validation
Execution of strategic initiatives such as capacity growth and product transfer, both into and out of the manufacturing site.
Continuous process improvement to drive and improve site quality, cost reduction and productivity goals and metrics
Advanced Engineering projects to support innovation pipeline and future growth
Leadership of talent acquisition and development
Support the continuous development of engineering excellence through the effective use of talent in in key assignments.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Degree in Engineering, Science or a related Discipline.
A minimum of 8 years relevant business experience and minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Life Sciences industries (Medical Device, Biotechnology or Pharmaceutical).
Manufacturing and / or Engineering management experience in FDA or other regulated environments from design to production
Experience in conceptual manufacturing equipment/process development, design and implementation, planning and scheduling and project management of capital projects
Experience new product introduction and in managing cross functional teams.
Program and project management qualifications and expertise working with multi-functional teams in an engineering/operational environment.
Track record in business case development in a technical environment and associated record of significant improvements in industry
Must demonstrate working knowledge of process development and validation, including design of experiments, statistical analysis, Equipment maintenance
An advanced degree such as MBA, MSc/Ph.D. in Science, Engineering, or a related Discipline
Experience with managing a Maintenance function in a regulated industry
Automation experience for low to medium volume production
Experience working in a CNC manufacturing environment
Material Science or Metallurgy experience
PMP or comparable Certification and familiarity with J&J Project Management approaches (FPX & Project Delivery Process) is helpful.
Professional Engineering Registration is helpful.
Minimum Six Sigma green belt certification.
Lean Manufacturing experience in a regulated environment
